Part 2 Senior Year

"Vinegar", acrylic 2008
Collection of Gary Birtcher
"Optimistic", chalk pastel 2008

This piece was a lot of fun. It's pretty large and was a HUGE mess to draw and put on the actual paper. The idea behind this one was inspired right after my first color-ology lesson. We discussed in class how a monocromatic piece in blue is portrayed as a very sad, depressing piece because the color blue is assosiated with sadness. Now my question was what would happen if i took a very happy person and drew it in blue? Would she still appear sad and gloomy? After completing it- I found that no, she's still happy and perky as ever. Interesting. It does kind of mess with your mind though- causes that double take reaction. She's happy but why then is she is a sad color? Hmmmm...

"Apache Lake", colored pencil on black paper 2008
